Pets can be very curious eaters. For some, their food isn’t the only thing they try to ingest. Though many inedible objects can pass harmlessly through their gastrointestinal tract, pets occasionally swallow something that cannot pass through their stomach or intestines. This creates a gastrointestinal foreign-body obstruction. Foreign body obstructions can be caused by anything not easily digestible, including string, clothing, sticks, children’s toys, bones, or trash. In these cases, we may have to perform an exploratory into the abdomen to find the cause of the obstruction and remove it.
